For most of us, dogs are a member of our family. We want to be able to include them in our leisure activities and invite guests into our homes without the fear of disaster occurring because they are out of control. As specialists in dog obedience and behavioural management, we employ techniques that are based on the most up-to-date training methods and equipment to instil harmonious relationships between owners and their dogs.

The procedure for a happy and healthy minded dog is to provide:

  1. Sufficient exercise on daily walks and play.
  2. Obedience – teaching and training your dog to listen to you through correct training (sit, down, stay etc).
  3. Praising and rewarding your dog at the right time.

For a dog to be obedient and behave in a desirable manner, the owner must gain trust and respect from the dog through clear communication. We will provide a unique training program for you and your dog to help establish and maintain these aspects in your relationship, a program in which results and emotional rewards go hand in hand.

It is equally important that the training is performed in a calm manner. Frustration anger and using harsh methods will only slow down the progress. Abuse only creates fear, not understanding or respect. We welcome you to this opportunity to take up the leadership role and responsibility in the training. You must practice the methods every day to start with, so that your dog can be accustomed to it. Failing to do so, will only hinder the effectiveness of the dogs progress.

General Terms

While it is not a legal requirement for your dog to have the Kennel Cough vaccination, it is something we would recommend. The facility in which all dogs will stay has NEVER had a case of Kennel Cough in the 7 years they have been trading, It is important to note that Kennel Cough is an airborne illness that can be caught anywhere, in another dogs home in the park, in a pet shop – not just in kennels. It is comparible to the dog version of a cold. Please note that we will not be taking responsibility for any cases of Kennel Cough. However, as with any issue, we will take immediate action, contacting both the owner and the local vets.

You must provide the right amount of food for the duration of your dogs stay. They will be fed at their usual feeding times, the same amount of times as they are fed at home – but it’s important you provide their meals.

Your chosen package will have a set number of updates per week – you will receive the number of updates corresponding to your chosen package. Please do not try to make further contact unless you have an emergency. In the case of an emergency, we will attempt to call you (the owner) first. If we are unable to get in touch, we will proceed to call the vet.

If you do not have Dog / Pet Insurance, we are still happy to train your dog. This is based on the understanding that if your dog becomes ill or needs veterinary attention, we will ensure your dog is taken to a veterinary practise, the full advice and treatment prescribed will be the course of action taken. The Dog Guy will not be responsible for any money owed for veterinary bills.

The commands we use here at The Dog Guy include, but are not limited to: Sit, Down, Place, Here (Recall), Heel, Bed, Verbal Markers (Yes, No, Good Boy/Girl) and many more.
