Your dog will stay with us for the duration of their stay. During this time, we build a strong relationship with your dog to better understand its issues and training needs so that our residential dog training is more effective, creating a bespoke programme for your dog’s needs and personality as we progress. Your dog will receive daily training sessions along with regular exercise and mental stimulation. With a choice between your dog staying in our luxury five-star kennel facilities or in a home environment, your dog is guaranteed a secure and comfortable home to rest after a full day’s training.

Fundamental training: sit, down, loose lead work, recall and stay.
Socialisation: working your dog around multiple different dogs of varying breeds, energy levels and temperaments.
Training in all environments: fields, woods, parks, and towns. Your dog will work around multiple people and distractions, increasing the criteria as we go.
Your dog will be housed in our five-star kennels.
Handover session upon collection of your dog to cover training with you.
90 minute follow up 1-2-1 session at our facilities.

Habituation training: getting your dog used to new stimuli; fireworks, household appliances and other loud noises.
Prevention training: chewing and biting, jumping up and resource guarding.
Desensitisation to be touched on their paws, ears and mouth - vital for visits to the vets and groomers.

Is residential or one to one training suitable for my dog’s needs?

This is ultimately down to the needs of your dog. Our residential training programme is designed to achieve the best results over an intensive period of training. The 3 to 4 weeks of training allows your dog to concentrate on learning new behaviours with consistency without distraction. Dog owners often look to residential training when other methods have failed, or they simply don’t have the time and ability to build a strong dog foundation of obedience for their dog.

If you’re not sure, then a member of our expert team will guide you towards the most suitable training package. They will discuss your dog’s needs, any current challenges, your ability to commit to training and your budget. We are confident we have a training solution that is right for you – nobody leaves us without a solution!

At what age can my dog be trained?

The simple answer is it is never too early or too late for your dog to be trained. We can train a dog one week after its second vaccination, and sooner if we are training within the home.

I have more than one dog that needs training. Can you help?

We often train multiple dogs from the same household. In fact, the only way to resolve some behavioural challenges is to train siblings at the same time.

How do I continue training at home once residential training has concluded?

You will be invited to an in-depth handover session at the end of training. This session allows us to show you the tools and techniques used to train your dog before giving you the opportunity to demonstrate to us you have taken everything on board. We even provide a short video of your dog in training to act as a future point of reference. If required, we can offer additional one to one support either in your home or our training facility to re-enforce training.

Where will my dog be trained?

We begin training all dogs at our training field, as this is a secure environment that we can control. However, as dogs live in the real world, we quickly move training to different environments such as parks, towns and cafes to expose them to all the sights, sounds and smells they will experience once home.

Fantastic service from The Dog Guy – all trainers are clearly exceptionally knowledgeable and were fantastic at teaching us as owners as well as our stubborn but nervous 2 year old Manchester Terrier, Rudi. Megan trained Rudi for 3 weeks and when we picked him up, it was clear he had been trained to a very high standard, especially on his reactivity to dogs and humans (which was the main issue for us). Megan also managed to introduce other commands that were key for us to take home, and have made such an impact already. One week later, we have just had Oli visit to help with doorbell reactivity (nailed it!) and leash training/heel command, as well as a walk to our park to test out the dog reactivity, which again has been so impactful already. All in all, best trainers we have ever used and we will definitely be leaving Rudi with the team when we are next on holiday or need a top up training session. Highly recommend! Thank you!

Just had a 1 2 1 session with Ollie and my dog Harry working on various bits. I’ve used many behaviourists and dog trainers before (that didn’t work), couldn’t have asked for a better trainer. Everyone at The Dog Guy are super to deal with, Nessa is so flexible when booking in and really goes the extra mile to help us when needed. We booked our follow-up session in with Oli and had new behavioral issues that had arisen since our dog's residential, within 10 minutes we had solved the problem. Oli works through our ''issues'' and explains the how's and the whys and doesn't just 'tell us what to do'' so we can understand for the future. We're given homework to continue to do at home and we feel confident we can stop any issues all together with persistence and Oli's guidance.

I sent my 6 month old Belgium Malinois, Luna, to The Dog Guys and Conan and his team were excellent. Luna stayed in a well equipped training ground and was well looked after. During her stay, I received regular video updates and could see progress from week one. The team kept in touch via whatsapp or calls and were always available to respond. I was at my wit’s end training her myself – even with the basics. And at the point of giving her up which would have broken my heart. I heard about this training facility and sent Luna there for 4 weeks. Initially I thought the cost looked like a lot of money but it was well worth it because now I have a dog that I love and have always wanted and when walking her now even strangers comment on how well she behaves and responds to commands. I am still continuing the training that Conan suggested and both Luna and myself are really enjoying it and Luna is learning more and more as we progress together. We had Oli over for his first 121 with Ozzy today and he was absolutely brilliant. So much advice and so knowledgeable. Really made me feel much more at ease and feel like I can deal with Ozzy in a positive way and even got him to retrieve a ball and bring it back on his first meeting with him! We had our 10 months old gsd x dobbie/Chinese red dog staying for 3 weeks with The Dog Guy . She is super bright and energetic dog that needed a bit of extra training in recall and socialising with other dogs or just to be less stressed meeting another dog or too. She is not dog aggressive but anxious. The dog guy trainers did amazing job with her focusing on job in hand which is staying with the trainer and drop the interest that was leading her away. She became desensitised to other dogs around her but not disinterested which is good as she needs to be aware what is going on around her. So they achieved a fab result in what we need for her. Now we will carry on with education of this brilliant bright girl. I would highly recommend The Dog Guy trainers to help and train any dog needing a good steady guidance .
